Healthworks Foundation

Founded in 1977 by Mark and Patty Harrington, Healthworks Fitness Centers for Women has been operating women-only facilities for thirty years. Healthworks provides its members with a supportive, progressive environment to meet their fitness and wellness goals. With locations in the Back Bay, Brookline, Cambridge, Chestnut Hill and Salem, Healthworks currently serves over 18,000 members throughout Massachusetts. In 1998 the co-owners of Healthworks Fitness Centers for Women developed The Healthworks Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the health and empowerment of women and children from all economic backgrounds, through fitness outreach efforts, scholarship programs, and many community-based efforts.

The Foundation has two primary components - the Community Outreach program (connects members with other non-profit organizations in the community), and the Healthworks Foundation Fitness Center (a free 3,500 sq ft fitness center in Dorchester for homeless and low-income women). The Foundation is proud to have served over 5,000 women. To show their commitment, 1.25% of membership dues from Healthworks Fitness Centers are donated to the Foundation each year. Helping the less fortunate is done by doing what Healthworks does best - strengthening women through the discipline of exercise and the practice of self preservation.

The Healthworks Foundation currently touches the lives of hundreds of members via community outreach projects and our non-profit St. Mary’s fitness facility in Dorchester. One percent of all Healthworks membership dues are used to help fund the Healthworks Foundation. We thank the Healthworks members and sponsors for creating healthier and happier lives for dozens of Healthworks Foundation members in the greater Boston area.

Currently, the Healthworks Foundation is working to expand its outreach efforts by building a second non-profit fitness facility in the Dorchester area. This new location will specifically target the fitness needs of children as well as continue to meet the needs of women.

As we work to open the new Foundation site, Healthworks is looking for support in the following areas:

Photographer
Web Designer
Outreach Worker
Front Desk Staff
